With a Grateful Heart --Shirley's 599th Friendly Greeting -Nov 29, 2020

Hi,Dear Friends

How are you?

Now is the Thanksgiving Holiday in the US, so, I would really like to say Happy Thanksgiving to my American friends and thank you for your good help, meanwhile, to say Hello to all of friends.

It has been for 4 weeks since I came back home in Shenzhen, China. During the time, I have been working hard on my paper while waiting for my thesis defense schedule, which has been delayed because of the epidemic situation. I mean that I should do it in May, 2020, but then, I was in the US. So, on Nov 18, I got a formal notice from the Arts Department of Graduate School at Chinese National Academy of Arts and my oral thesis defense would be done with other students who will graduate in 2021.

To be honest, if it happened last year, I would be worried, but now, it is full of the appreciations in my heart. Because, it will give me a good opportunity to improve my paper and lay a wider and solider Chinese art foundation for my current and future cross-cultural and comprehensive art work.

After all, I would have used for about 5 years on it until next May, 2021. For the thesis oral defense in 2019, I had mainly studied the Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism for making sure the relationship between Chinese ancient painting and these classical Chinese philosophies; for the re-defense which couldn't be done in 2020, I had mainly studied the inheritance relationship between my topic and the ancient Chinese painting theories from 5th century BC to 17th century AD, and the previous studies of the scholars from 17th century AD to 21st century and touched as many as possible greatest artists and theorists from ancient to modern and contemporary; during the process, I had also painted more than 300 paintings relate to my paper and wrote about 250,000 words’ study notes and made more than 60 tables; right now, for the defense in 2021 I am studying Yi, which is one of the base of Confucianism and Taoism, summarizing and proving my thesis...

Base on the idea that time is one of the most important preconditions to improve my paper, I would really like to cherish the precious time which the school gives me. Therefore, now, besides painting when I am listening to the TV, playing piano as my short breaks, most of my time is used on the paper. I am sure that I will be able to write a valuable academic dissertation.

Attached files are 6 little paintings I did after coming back home and hope to bring you a big smile.

How about you? Do you have anything special to share?

Photo Notes:They are some views of Shenzhen, the first Special Economic Zone and the most modern city of China. It's next to Hong Kong and located by the South China Sea. I do love it for its wonderful climate, beautiful view and opening cultural environment, and I think it my 4th hometown...
