Chinese Classical Poem 0107 --0083 (By Lang Shiyuan) & Shirley Created Music-0073: Bailing Si Nan Wang --Looking South by Bailin Temple

I am in my New Year's holiday right now. However, I am working on my yearly researching report and I would like to complete it as soon as possible. So, I keep working in my office for a while every day so that I have no time to create a piece of music to match a Chinese classical poem as I did. So, I would like to show you a piece of music that I had created to match a classical poem in April, 2007, then a picture that I created to match it in July, 2007. I do hope that my music, singing, painting and comments about this poem will bring you an enjoyment and to be a little bit help to you to improve your Chinese and to know more about Chinese culture.

Later, I will sing it in English, too. Then, I will really complete my design to match a Chinese classical poem鈥檚 introduction with music, singing, painting, calligraphy, translation and singing it in both of English and Chinese.

Hi friends, have you ever travelled anywhere that while you were in a boat on some brook, you heard a peaceful bell coming from a temple or a church that made you want to moor your boat and to take a walk along a quiet path in the forest? And that after the summer rain the golden sunshine returned, the weather was fair, the mountains were green, and although there were some clouds still around, the sky was mainly blue, just as if some artist had painted 4 or 5 peaks in the southwest?

This is just the beautiful landscape depicted in a little poem of 28 characters by Tang Dynasty (618 - 907) poet Lang Shiyun Bailin Si Nan Wang -- Looking South by Bailin Temple. :-)

I do like this little poem so I have written a piece of music and some calligraphy to go with it.   

I do hope that my introduction, music, singing and calligraphy are a little help to you to you in learning more about Chinese culture and language.

When I was still on the brook,
I heard the sound of a bell
from the far away Bailin Temple,
I berthed my boat and walked through a pine forest
along a little path.
After the rain,
Weather was fair,
Mountains were green,
Clouds were still around,
Just like someone has painted
Four or five peaks southwest... :-)
