Teaching Benefits Students as Well as Teachers-- Shirley's America Travel Diary 142 & 579th Friendly Greeting - May 13, 2018

Hi,Dear Friends

Hello, How are you? Have you had a good weekend and are you enjoying your new week?

On my side, in the past 3 weeks of my 8th American travel, I have offered 54 lessons, the accumulative total 120 times in 3 K-12 schools since 2015 and 285 lessons about 385 hours for free for about 5550 person-times in 41 schools since 2009.

This week, I have some very strong thoughts and feelings:

First of all and the biggest gain I have gotten from these lesson is: Teaching Benefits Students as Well as Teachers, it is the process to help the others while improving myself. Almost every business day, when I interact with my students, I can not only give something to them but I can learn something new or good from them, and find something which I should adjust or improve in my teaching always.

During the teaching and studying process in the US since 2009, I have basically created about 4 kinds of course models with different units and lesson numbers on both of Chinese as a Foreign Language and the Fine Arts fields. I am trying to do my best to create more course models with different lessons in my future teaching.

From this meaning, students are just my best teachers and work directors indeed.

Second, I do feel that everything I have done rely on the good supports of the local principals of the 3 K-12 schools and the considerate help of Mrs. Glad Eyerman(She is on the 2nd, 4th photos on the right and the 5th photo on the left ).

Until this Friday, May 11, 2018, I have gotten 3 Certificate of Appreciations from Principal Cheryl Hall of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton School (She is on the 1st and 2nd photos), Principal Theresa Coleman (she is on the third and fourth photos)of Immaculate Conception School and Principal Lindsay Paulsell of St. Agnes School (she is on the 5th photo,in the flowered dress).

I am happy that all of these schools have given me a title “Guest Teacher” and our Art Curriculum Program will become a regular event in the future...

Therefore, I have accepted a beautiful T-shirt and the lovely logo of a school, but returned the money which was given by a school. I would really like to talk with the principal who wished to give me the money, to donate it for founding a little fund in her school, to support this Art Curriculum Program and to help her American students to learn Chinese culture and arts...

Thirdly, both of Mrs. Glad and I have realized something which we need to adjust in the future work. Therefore, we will summerize our jobs as soon as we finish the teaching in the classroom, try to do our best to improve our work quality in the future cooperation...

How about you? Do you have anything special on your side?

I am just a student on Arts of Painting, Music, English and Management, and work on the web site in my free time. I would really like to do something with what I have learned, to make this little web site to be a little Electronic Bridge of Cross -cultural and Comprehensive Art Study and Chinese Language Learning, to help the others while to improve myself.

I would like to appreciate you for your good understanding, directions, supports and help.

If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, you are welcome to write toshirley@ebridge.cn or leave your message on Message Board
