Yu Shun was a legendary monarch in the remote antiquity. He was the son of Gu, with the nature of filial piety.

The emperor Yao heard about the filial piety of Yu Shun and his ability to deal with things. He married his two daughters E Huang and Nǚ Ying to him. After Observing and testing him for many years, Yao chose Yu Shun as the heir apparent.
After Yu Shun ascended the throne, still he went to visit his father with the most respectfully, and made his half brother as a prince.
