Shirley's Essays: Lives - 012: One of Assignments of My English Learning 01 - An Unpleasant Medical Problem

Since I became a formal distance student of Beijing Foreign Studies University on March 16,2008, I have been delight for I have found the best place to learn English via Internet. Every night, I work on my English lesson and I go to sleep with a big smile. Just like a little fish, I am enjoying the endless joys in the wide and deep knowledgeable sea. Every night, I find some new knowledge that I have been looking for; and I see some mistakes that I had made for a long time. Now, I would like to share one of my assignments with you. My teacher gave it 94 marks. If you were my English teacher, how many marks would you give me?

An Unpleasant Medical Problem

I've never really had any major health problems, but, I did suffer from a severe headache 14 years ago.

That was in the end of 1993, we planned to publish the first yearly report of Chinese securities market in China with a series of tables in the newspaper on the New Year’s Day of 1994. After working for about 12 hours on the computer, my eyes were weight and my vision was blurring. But, the work had just been done about 1/3, I could not have a rest yet. I continued to work with an engineer until a part of my head started to ache, my neck was getting hard and my eyes were dry and uncomfortable when I looked at the light. So, I had to I lie on a two-double bed in a corner when the engineer was accounting the data on his computer. Then, I got up to check his result. In this way, we worked for about 24 hours and I started sick and my head was ache more and more. However, I knew I could not stop because the printing factories were waiting for us, I could not delay the schedule of the newspaper office because of my pages. So, I asked a colleague to buy a box of analgetic for me. After working for about 36 hours, finally, we completed the series of statistics tables of Chinese Securities Market in time.

Soon, I was sent to a hospital. A doctor heard my symptoms and made some checking via some instrument. Then she prescribed some medication of injection to help me to sleep. When she was working, the director of our administration office, who is my current boss wondered why I was suffering the headache. The doctor answered “Too tired”. Then he wondered how to treat, the doctor also just answered simply “have a rest”. Yes, she was right, after having a sleep for 3 days, I recovered totally.

Now I have been “an expert” of preventing headache already. I do have found the best medicine to avoid headache. It is just sleep and relaxation.
