The first time I heard this song was at the company's Spring Festival Party in 2005 where it was sung in Chinese by a colleague. I enjoyed it very much, but at the time I did not imagine that I would sing it myself both in Italian and in Chinese 2 years later. :- )

As I could not find an English version of this song, I previewed and prepared another Italian song instead, even though my new vocal music teacher had asked me to preview this song before she would teach me to sing it. However, she still encouraged me to learn it because she thought it was an excellent Italian folk song and that every student who is studying vocal music should learn it.

So, while my guests were in Guilin, I learned it once more in my music lesson on Tuesday night and I made a recording on Wednesday night.

The more I sang it, the more I enjoyed this song for its bright rhythm and delightful lyrics. :-) It made me think of the color of bright red, the energy of youth and of beautiful flowers... :-) So, even though I do not think that I have mastered the letter "R" yet, I still would like to do my best to learn to sing it. :-)

Anyway, I have not sung it in English yet. I was afraid of making mistakes since I understood it through the Chinese translation rather than the Italian itself. I would like to continue to learn Italian and hope to be able to make a translation directly from the Italian some day. :-)

If you are an Italian friend, if you can speak Italian or you have seen an English version of this song, could you please help me and show it to me?

I do hope that the Chinese part of this song will be a little help to you in learning the Chinese language and in improving your listening level.

The beautiful Spanish girl,
every one loves her,
everywhere people admire her
how she is lively and beautiful

The beautiful Spanish girl,
she is the beauteous flower of Spain
Her charming eyes,
have attracted every heart.

Ah, every day and night,
I wish I was around her.
Ah, my amorous girl,
to sing your best for me!

LYRICS IN ITALIAN

Di spagna sono la bella,
regina son dell'amor!
Tutti mi dicono stella,
stella di vivo splendor.

Di spagna sono la bella,
regina son dell'amor!
Tutti mi dicono stella,
stella di vivo splendor.

Ah, Stretti, stretti
Nell'estasi d'amor!
La spagnola sa amar cosi
bocca a bocca la notte e il di.
