This is the third time I learned to sing this song. The first time I learned it from my music teacher Ms. Ma Xuan in Shenzhen, China in 2006; then I taught myself to sing it in USA in 2009; this afternoon, Dec 11, 2011, I re-studied to sing it from Ms. Ma in Chinese National Academy of Arts in Beijing.

Every time, when I sing it, it is full of the touched feeling in my heart and much love to my motherland.

Even though I had seen and suffered something sad in person in the Culture Revolution, even though I did have some opportunities to settle down in some Western countries, I am now in China. Why?

Because, I do love my own country and I do think that I should stand some social responsibility to study and to work for my own country, with what I have learned and studied from both of Chinese and Western cultures, to deliver Chinese cultures to the world and to bring the Western culture to China. After all, in my heart, the ancient Chinese culture and civilization not only belongs to China, but also it belongs to all humanity; the other culture is same.

With this idea, I have been studying, thinking and exploring for about 10 years. To learn, to   translate and to sing this song in Chinese and in English is just a part of the study, preparative and accumulation.

Main Meaning of the Song

I deeply love you,
the passionate land.
On the path I have gone,
there're flowers' smell & birds' songs;
On the field I have cultivated,
there're the golden and the green.
How can I leave from
the mountains & rivers,
Ah ... ah... ah...ah...
I embrace the poplar by the village,
as if I am embracing mama's body...

I deeply love you,
the passionate land.
I always suck the land mother's milk,
I daily accept the love of yours.
I go over the mountain roads and creeks,
Ah ...ah...ah...ah....
I hold the soil of my hometown,
As if I am holding the hope and dreams.

I deeply love you,
the passionate land, land, land….
