The first time I saw the sea was when I sailed from Dalian to Shanghai in 1979. It was during the journey of 2 days and 2 nights, through different weather conditions, that I realized for the first time the great power of nature and saw for the first time so many beautiful views of sea. Even now, I still remember the wonderful waves, the flying sea birds and their calls and the rich colors of the water.

Later, I lived by the biggest fresh water lake in China, Tai Lake, for 9 years. I now live in Shenzhen, by the South China Sea, and have lived here for 15 years.

I love great nature and the seas, lakes and oceans. Whenever I am near them, I feel my heart becomes bigger, my mind becomes clearer and my emotions become more positive with much joy. With a thankful heart, I appreciate great nature because it has created the human race and it has offered us rich resources and a rich environment.

"Dahai, Guxiang -- The Ocean/Sea, My Hometown" was the first song that my new vocal music teacher Ms. Huang taught me and I first recorded it in Chinese and English with the help of my first vocal music teacher Ms. Ma in July 28, 2007.

This weekend, as a review, I re-translated, re-sang and re-recorded it and hope you enjoy it and find that I have made some progress.

I do hope that my effort will be of some help to you to learn Chinese culture and to improve your Chinese Listening level.

MAIN MEANING OF THE SONG

When I was young,
My mama told me,
The Ocean is my hometown.

I was born by the sea,
I've grown up next to it.

Ocean, oh ocean,
You are the place where I live.
The wind is blowing,
the waves are surging,
flowing with me everywhere.

Ocean, oh ocean,
You are like my mama,
Wherever I am going,
You are always with me.

The ocean, ah my hometown,
The ocean, ah my hometown,
My hometown,
My hometown....
