Shirley Sings a Chinese Folk Song--055: That Is Just Me -- A Song For Mothers

LISTEN TO SHIRLEY SING THE SONG

This Saturday I worked in my office from 8:10am to 4:00pm and when I got home I was a little bit tired, so I called my vocal music teacher and asked to start my vocal music lesson later, at 7:30pm, to give myself time to have a short rest. :-)

After a short nap I felt good and I prepared to sing a song that I had sung some days ago, before my time problem. When my teacher got here, however, she said that she wanted to give me a surprise and allow me to sing a song that I had been wanting to sing for some time, but that she has not allowed me to sing before because she felt that it was too difficult for me to master. Anyway, as tomorrow is Mother's Day, she now wanted me to sing it. :-)

I was so happy to hear this and I sang it for my teachers mother and my own mother via two long distant telephone calls to show appreciation to both of them for having given us our lives, for raising us and educating us... Meanwhile, I wished them happiness and good health with my song. :-)

As usual, both my son and I made telephone calls on Saturday night and my son promised to call me tomorrow on the Mother's Day. :-) Do you know what my son often calls me? He calls me a "Young Little Sister" and plays the part of a "Big Brother" for fun, because he is now much taller than me... :-) Tonight I was singing while I was looking at the pictures of my son as a baby and as a young boy before he left to study at a high school and university in a Western country about 6 years ago, when he was still less than 15 years old. I feel happy as a responsible mother to have paid the price of raising him alone and giving him a better education in China and abroad through extra hard work over many years.

So, tonight, I was also singing this song for my lovely son and me myself... :-)

I do hope that all mothers and children in the world are happy, lucky and keep smiles on their faces forever.

I just hope that my singing will bring you a big smile and also be a little help to you in improving your Chinese aural comprehension :-)

MAIN MEANING OF THE SONGLISTEN TO SHIRLEY SING THE SONG:

I miss the little river in my hometown
and the water mill that is singing by the water.
Oh, Mother,
If there is a wave is smiling to you,
that is just me,
that is just me,
that is just me.

I miss the smoke from kitchen chimneys in my hometown,
and the oxcart that is going to the market
on the little road.
Oh, Mother,
If there is a bamboo flute blowing to you,
this is me,
that is me,
that is me.

I miss the lights on the fishing boats,
and the beautiful trumpet shells,
Oh, Mother,
if there is a sail sailing to you,
that is just me,
that is just me,
that is just me.

I miss the bright moon in my hometown,
and the green mountains are fleshing in the water.
Oh, mother,
if you have heard a folk song from far away,
that is just me,
that is just me,
that is just me.
