Shirley Created Music For Chinese Classical Poem--036: Cai Lian Qu -- The Song of Picking Water Lily

LISTEN TO THE TEXTLISTEN TO SHIRLEY PLAY & SING THE POEM

Hi, friends, today, I would like to introduce a new Chinese classical poem Cai Lian Qu -- The Song of Picking Water Lily by Tang Dynasty poet Zhangzhao.

I chose this poem for you because it relates four different views that a group of girls experienced during the course of a single day in four simple lines.

As you can see from this poem, the sun was red when the girls set out from the sandbank in the morning; then black clouds gathered over the river in the evening. Luckily their neighbor, a girl, knew how to deal with this situation and the water lily boat did not fear the wind... Then they came back from the river singing...

I have written a new piece of music, and I have played and sung it for you. I really hope that my effort on this poem is of some help to you to in improving your Chinese language level.

Days ago, I introduced another Song of Picking Water lily by Tang Dynasty poet Wang Changling, hope each of them can inform the other and help you to know more about China and Chinese culture.
