LISTEN TO THE TEXTLISTEN TO SHIRLEY PLAY & SING THE POEM

Hi, friends, today, I would like to introduce a new Chinese classical poem Yu Ye Ji Bei ?Lines Sent North In a Rainy Night. The meaning of the behind of the words is Writing to My Wife In The Rain Nightby Tang Dynasty(618-907) poet Li Shangyin(813-858).

Li Shangyin is one of the most important poets in Later-Tang Dynasty. About his life and literature achievements, I have made some introduction when I introduced his another two poems Chinese Classical Poem--0025:Wu Ti -- No Title and Chinese Classical Poem--0031: No Title 02 -- Telesthesia. You can review it by the links.

This poem is a letter that he wrote to his wife to express that how he missed her in his home in the North from the Bashan Mountain in Sichuan province.

As usual, I wrote a piece of music to match this poem and hope you enjoy it. :-)

MAIN MEANING OF THE POEMLISTEN TO SHIRLEY PLAY & SING THE POEM

You asked me
when I would leave for home,
I haven't known the time yet.
Tonight
a heavy rain
is rising of the pools
in the Bashen Mountain
in the deep fall.
When can I go back to you
to talk in a candle light
by the West Window,
to recall together
how we were missing each other
in the rain night
from both of the Bashan Mountain
and the far away home in the North...

I can not foretell when I will leave the Mount Ba for our reunion,
so far, the autumn lake is rising with the night rain.
I do not know when to light off our wedding candle again,
we will recall what happened tonight in the reain mountain.
