Shirley Created Intergrated Art

Inergrated or Combined Art is my own style. It bases on the traditional Chinese painting’s 4 basic elementries “Poetry, Chaligraphy, Painting and Chops”, plus I myself created music, translation, comments, singing and culture background together. Make the meaning of the paintings in the painting to be expressed by the painting, music, language and literature together, to help people to know the meaning of the painting and the poem from multi dimensions.

“There is poetry in a painting and there is painting in a poem” is the goal that Chinese artists have pursued by for a few thousand years. The typical representation people, such as Wang Wei (701- 761) in Tang Dynasty (618 - 907) and Su Shi (1037~1101) in Song Dynasty (960-1279) are all great poets, litterateur, painters and calligraphers.

Except the 4 elements in a painting, original Chinese ancient poems could be sung, just for the time is too long, most of them have been lost. Just few of them have been left until now.

I am lucky enough that I was majored Chinese classical language and literature for 5 years and be a college instructor for 9 years. Then I have learned Chinese painting and music for about 8 years.

Therefore, when I am painting, singing or reading something beautiful, I often have an emotion to combine or integrate them together.

Since China is a nation of poetry, poems are one of the most important of Chinese culture. Poetry is one of my favorite and most of Chinese children learn Chinese language and culture from reciting Chinese poems (Most of educated Chinese parents teach their children to recite Chinese classical poems as soon as their children start to learn speak).

I started to learn to sing in 2002 and re-started to learn to paint in 2003. I started to translate and create music for Chinese classical poems and to sing them in Chinese in 2005. I started to create paintings for Chinese classical poems in 2007 and to sing them in both of Chinese and English in 2008.

Since then, I have created 32 integrated art works. What I am dreaming is to create my own quince Integrated or Combined Art style, to help people to learn Chinese culture and language via multi dimensions, to enjoy their eyes, ears, brains.

I do hope that you will enjoy my explorement and to hear your comments, suggestions and directions.
