Shirly Sung China(North) Folk Song--051: A Episode From Opera/Movie --A White Hair Girl

LISTEN TO SHIRLEY SINGING THE SONG

Tonight, I learned a new Chinese folk song that is from a famous Chinese opera/movie A White Hair Girl

Opera A White Hair Girl was created in 40's in the Second World War. It told a story -- a beautiful young girl Xi Er and a young boy Da Chun were fell in love and both of them were preparing to get marry on the Chinese New Year's Day. At the Eve of the Chinese New Year, a local landholder robbed the girl and raped her because her father could not return his debt. At the same night, her father was dead, she escaped into the mountains and the young boy run to join army.

In the deep mountains to live for many years, her hair changed to be white and be called "a white hair fairy" by the local people. Until the young boy and his army came back the village. They killed the landholder and found the girl back.

Finally, both of them got marry and became to be wife and husband.

This song was sung when the girl was preparing her wedding with a happy heart, and hope you enjoy it. :-)

MAIN MENAING OF THE SONGLISTEN TO SHIRLEY SINGING THE SONG

The north wind is blowing,
the snow is flying.
Two birds fly through the wind and over the snowy land
They have flown for over a thousand miles,
looking for their tender and long time affection...
Now they land on the same branch of a tree.
The two birds will become a couple,
Their happiness will be double,
A corner of a thatched cottage will be their bridal chamber...
