Learn the New While Reviewing the Old -- Shirley's 486th Friendly Greeting from Beijing- June 13, 2015

Hi,Dear Friends

How are you? Have you had a wonderful week?

Light travels like an arrow and time flies like a shuttle. In the twinkling of an eye, I have come back Beijing for 14 days. I myself never thought that I have painted 25 paintings and used paper thick more than 10 centimeter ( 3.93inches)and about 125g Chinese ink in the short 2 weeks. Anyway, just 5 of them ( 3 of painted were re-painted second or third time for I wished to improve them) can be listed into my art works, most of them are my daily practice and will be thrown into the garbage can. :-)

Things were begun from the painting of bamboo and birds below. I painted it first time in the USA in June or Feb, 2014 for matching a classical Chinese poem and a piece of music I created for the poem. However, I have not put them into the contents of my new book for I did not satisfy the painting. So, I re-painted it twice as soon as I came back school after going out of the National English Examination Room.

However, I could not satisfy the bamboo so that I have not written the Chinese Poem and my translation on it yet.

With many questions, I consulted my tutors. I am lucky enough that three of my tutors Mr. Wu Tong (the associate head of Teaching Department of Chinese Painting School at Chinese National Academy of Arts), Mr. Lu Wenqing (our class adviser) gave me some patient directions and made some demonstration for me. Then later, Mr. Ren Ming (the head of office of Chinese Painting School at CNAA ) required me to paint orchid.

Three of them gave me a same assignment -- to keep painting bamboo or orchid every day.

To be honest, this is not a new object for me and since the first day I came to China Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2010 and Chinese National Academy of Arts in 2011, the professors required us to do it. But I did not keep doing it for I thought they are something too simple. :-)

With an ashamed heart, I have been keep having a morning individual training -- to paint bamboo and to study English respectively for 2 hours at the first, and now to paint bamboo, orchid and to study English for 4 to 5 hours every morning.

Maybe you would like to ask where your time from?

In fact, just in the course of studying English for taking part in the National English Examination, a good life habit has been recovered. Now I leave for home at 9:00pm.from the classroom and go to sleep at 10:30pm and get up at 4:30am. Then my time has been distributed into 4 stages each day, just like I did in the university. I have totally come back to my university times already. Hope to study and work for performing my upcoming 10-year plan step by step, with a scientifical and healthy life style.

This way, when most of the classmates come into the classroom, I have completed my daily practice already.

Even though some blisters have appeared on my feet for standing or walking too much and I re-feel pain on my legs, the surprised thing is my daily work subjects have been added but my work efficiency has been improved much more so that I myself did not realize I have painted so many within the short two weeks; while the stomach-ache has gone from me since I came back Beijing.

The most importance is that in the course of adjusting my time and work content, I do feel " Learn the New While Reviewing the Old ." Just in the each line under my brush with Chinese ink, I have had some new understanding and inspiration about Chinese culture and painting.

Just at the time I would like to send this letter to you, Mr. Wu Tong (Head of Teaching Department of Chinese Painting School at Chinese National Academy of Arts) came into our classroom. He checked and commented my works and then he gave me a new assignment -- to go to paint from the nature and then to change it to be a Chinese Baimiao Painting. Then to color it with Chinese Mogu Style. In his opinions, Chinese Mogu Painting is something most suitable me to work on. Instead of continuing to paint small size mogu painting as I did, he wished me to create a big size Chinese Mogu Painting on silk.

I am quite glad for Mr. Wu Tong, Mr. Sun Qi, Mr. Ren Ming and I myself thought it is most suitable for me to paint Chinese Mogu Painting and it is my favorite Chinese Painting. Since there is still for 1.5 months before this semester, I would like to complete the composition of the painting. So, I will go to paint from the nature since tomorrow morning.

How about you? Do you have anything special to share?
