Enthusiasm & National Inspirit? --Shirley's US Travel Diary -030 & 190th Friendly Greeting - Thur, April 9, 2009

Hi,Dear Friends

How are you? Is everything well with you?

Today is the 192th day that I am in the US. I am quite happy for I have past one of the most difficult closed-book examinations of International Marketing with 246 of 300 on Monday and entered the last holiday of mine in the US ? Easter Holiday.

From surface, the 246 of 300 were not my best score, in my heart, it was the highest one, because there was no any flexible content, such as an essay in the examination. All of the questions were multi-choices and its content covered 8 chapters and many the other articles. As an International student, every examination not only tests my professional knowledge and ability, but also tests my English and multi-choice in English has been my weakest part. I am happy for I have understood almost whole of the questions and the “guesswork” changed less and less.

With a big smile and a little bit easy heart, I translated and sang a new Chinese folk song, then and I created a new painting in the first day of my holiday. I am smiling for the result of the examination; I am feeling “a little bit easy” for I will meet a quiz next Monday, a presentation on Wednesday and another closed-book examination with 11 chapters and more articles on Friday while to hand in my paper...

Anyway, still I would like to write something before I start my work in the holiday for I want to catch the word "Enthusiasm" that I have been feeling from the campus, the Science Museum in San Francisco, Disneyland in Los Angeles, especially the lecture by Dr. Rozell organized for her Organizational Management course April 1 and my current course by Dr. Hermans...

Wow, first time, I saw how the young American entrepreneurs to express themselves with the huge enthusiasm and how the young American students to respond the speeches with the same huge enthusiasm. My feeling in the meeting place was not only listening to some lectures, but also attending a pop-concert by some special “musicians” with some wonderful multi- presentations, speeches while quickly speed, walking, gesticulations, gestures on the stage, in the aisles and even on the seats… people responded them with quietly listening, ardently applauding, shouting, standing up and sitting down … whole of the lecture hall was just like a jolly sea with so much enthusiasm.

Just as I have felt from the passionate lectures, I felt the same enthusiasm in my current International Marketing Course by Dr. Hermas. You can not imagine how many jobs that he had done for his lessons. All of his 19 handouts, about 30 articles and cases, curriculum schedule, assignments, examinations, statistic software, paper and presentations were all listed and on the blackboard before his lesson… records, radios, tables, charts were offered in his lesson as well… The most impression is that Dr. Hermans often offers his lessons with quickly walking in the classroom with a lot of enthusiasm, except he does not stand on the seat as those young entrepreneur did in the lecture hall, Dr. Hermans has done his best to offer us the last and most knowledge that he could, to teach and direct us in the International Marketing Management field.

So, I am thinking that maybe “enthusiasm” in the bodies and hearts of the American people is just one of this country’s great national spirits and characteristics, to push the US to be the strongest country in the world? Maybe this is just one of our Chinese should think and learn from them seriously?

What is your opnions about this topic?

Shirley Created Art - Chinese Xieyi -0209: Spring - My 11st Painting in the US
Wednesday night, with a happy heart after passing the examination and much grate heart to my Chinese art teacher ? Mr. Tao who is from China Central Academy Of Fine Arts, I created this picture as my assignment. Mr. Tao gave me 91 marks and pointed out 3 problems in my painting, so, as long as I can, I will re-paint it. How do you think of this picture, do you like it?

Bilangual Song--042: Shirley Sings A Chinese(Inner Mongolia) Folk Song -76 "Aobao Xianhui -- Have a Data by Aobao" in English & Chinese in the US--09
This is a famous Chinese love song. There is not any word about love in it and the girl calls his lover "Brother". This is a typical Chinese culture phenomenon and many Chinese call their lovers, husbands and wives "brothers" or "sisters". I learned to sing it in 2005 and 2007 in China and I re-translated and sang it in English first time in the US. I spent for 6 hours on the song that is 2.5 minutes for the job itself is helping me to improve my English. The more I sing it in English, the more meaning I catch from CNN. Hope you enjoy it and to help you to know more about Chinese culture and language.

I am just a learner on art of painting, music, English and Chinese language, to work on the web site in my free time. I would really like to do a few things with what I have learned to make this little web site to be an Electronic Bridge of Culture Exchange, Chinese Language Learning & Friendship making. To help the others while improving myself.

I will appreciate your understanding, directions, supports and hope to get your friendly direction and help.

If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, you are welcome to write to shirley@ebridge.cn or Yiping007@MissouriState.edu, or to publish your opinions in the forum.
