Quickly, Lovely & Beautifully -- Shirley's 86th Friendly Greeting --Sun, April 22, 2007

Hi,Dear Friends

How are you? Have you had a good week? I do hope you are well and have a relaxed Weekend.

This week, a big thing that is affecting Chinese economy and people's life is that since Wednesday, April 18, the Chinese railway started its 6th speedup, China has joined the ranks of countries with high-speed rail services.

I remember, the last time, that I had a trip by train, was in 1991. After being on a train for over 30 hours, I reached Shenzhen railway station from Shanghai, passing Wuxi and Guangzhou.

Since then, in the past 16 years, I have not had any travel by train again. I felt it was too slow and it was wasting time too much. So, I have been having my travels by airplane or car.

Anyway, 3 days ago, when I knew the good news, I did feel that maybe in the coming time, train would be one of good vehicle for me to have some new traveling. The best example is that after this speeding up, the travel time between Shenzhen and Guangzhou is only 57 minutes. Every day there are 88 times trains from Shenzhen to Guangzhou. Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Guangzhou have been totally connected together with much more close way. Also, just from this day, Shenzhen people can catch a train many times with only one train ticket weekly. Plus our advanced subway and the other public vehicle system, Shenzhen people are enjoying the best traffic service in China.

As a Chinese who has experienced the huge change of China in person since the Culture Revolution was finished and Chine entered its reform and opening times, I have seen the country is getting stronger, people are changing richer, and my own life is getting more comfortable. After experiencing the time to start my learning at 4:30am every day, then to catch a bus to enter into my office at 7:30am as the earliest one in the company for years. Right now, I have not been in a bus for about 10 years already.

I am confident to China and our people. I am thinking that if I had a new travel abroad again, there would be less people thinking of me as Japanese as I had met.

Anyway, I know there are a lot of things in China behind and not as good as we have dreamed. That is why I would really like to learn, to work hard for my motherland, to give my own little bit energy to help her getting beautiful more and more...

To help my own country is also to help me itself. Do you think so? Do you love your country and do you enjoy working hard for your motherland?

Shirley Created Art -- Chinese Xieyi 0133:Source of Peach Blossoms
I created this picture in my art lesson Thursday night and it is the 4th time I worked on my long scroll. The 4th part is a background of the first 3 parts. I painted the mountains and peach blossoms with some light colors, for I wanted to push it far away and made the picture has a depth of field. I gave this part a name, The Source of Peach Blossom, for I wanted this picture and I can learn the author of the article with the same name and the great poet in Chinese history ? Tao Yuanming ( 365427), to love the great nature and to pursue the beautiful and natural quality. My teacher felt I did a good work and gave me 90 marks. How do you see this picture? Do you enjoy it?
Shirley Sung Chinese Popular Song--012: The Moon Is Going, I Am Going,Too
I enjoy this love song for its strong Chinese folk style and lyrics. In many places of China, girls call their male colleagues, male friends, boyfriends, lovers and even husbands: "Brothers" or what 'what Brothers'. So, if a Chinese girl calls you as "Brother", you have to make sure her true meaning and to avoid a misunderstanding. In Chinese culture, it is not easy to speak "Love" directly, even real lovers or husband and wife. So, you can not see any word of love in the lyrics directly. But, if you have understood Chinese culture, you can really feel a strong love feeling in the girl's heart to her Brother. I do hope that you enjoy it and it can be a little bit help to you to know Chinese culture.

Chinese Classical Poem --0083 (By Lang Shiyuan) & Shirley Created Music-0073: Bailing Si Nan Wang --Looking South by Bailin Temple
Have you traveled somewhere, that when you were still visiting on some brook, some peaceful bell sound was coming from a far away temple or a church. It made you want to berth your boat and to have a walk in a forest along a path. After stopping for a rain, the golden sunshine has come back, the mountains are greener, the sky was bluer and the clouds are all around, just like some artist has painted several peaks Southwest? This is just a beautiful landscape in a little poem by Tang Dynasty (618 - 907) poet Lang Shiyun. I have created a piece of music and singing it for you. Also, I have written its calligraphy to match it. I do hope what I have done is a little bit help to you to know more about Chinese culture and language.

Shirley's Chinese Calligraphy: Running Regular Script -- 009 -- Bai Ling Si Nai Wang
I learned to write this calligraphy to match Chinese Classical Poem --0083 (By Lang Shiyuan) & Shirley Created Music-0073: Bailing Si Nan Wang --Look At South by Bailin Temple. You can hit the link to hear my singing and to know its meaning. What I wish is to share Chinese culture with you and the friends, who have come to Shirleys World and be interested in China and Chinese culture and language via my work on the little web site. I do hope you enjoy them.

Chinese in Daily Life-0025(Sentence: 174 -- 0176):How to Say "Catch a Bus or a Train"
I have not edited this column for a while, because of the time problem and also because I have been thinking how to improve it. So, today, I am trying a new style to introduce some new sentences about catching a bus or a train. In Chinese, when we express the meaning of catching a bus or a train, taking an airplane, we usually say "Gan Che", " Gan Gongjiaochen", "Gan Huozhe" or "Gan Feiji". So, I have offered you 3 sentence patterns, some key words and grammar of these sentences and hope it is a little bit help.

I am just a learner on art, music, English, French and the work on the web site in my free time. Anyway, I would really like to do a little bit things with what I have learned to make this little web site to be An Electronic Bridge Of Culture Exchange, Friendship and Language Learning. During the process to help the others and to improve myself.

I do appreciate your understanding, directions and supports. I do hope to get your great help continuously now and in the coming time...
