This is my 807th painting since 2003and the 440th Chinese Xieyi Painting, the 201st assignment that I have completed in Chinese National Academy of Arts .

This is the 24th painting that I painted for the series stories and my long scroll《二十四孝》: Er Shi Si Xiao Tu -- The Twenty-Four Dutiful Children .

This story names: 丁兰刻木事亲-- Ding Lan Carved the Wooden Statue of His Parents and Respected them -Shirley's 199th Assignment at

Ding Lan was from Henei (today’s Henan Province)in the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220).

His parents passed away when he was young, so that he often missed them and wanted to appreciate them for the love and care that they had given him from his childhood. So, he carved two wooden statues of his parents and treated them as alive parents, to discuss every thing with them, to have his own meals after blessing them, to tell them before going out of the door and to meet them as soon as came back home, never got slack for one day.

As time passes, his wife did not bow in the statues, even she pricked their fingers with a needle curiously, so that the fingers of the wooden statue flow blood out.

When Ding Lan came back home, he found that tears were dropping from the eyes of the wooden statues of his parents.

After knowing the fact, he divorced his wife.

I painted this painting for this story 1 month ago. How do you think of it? Do you enjoy it?
