Title: Shirley Created Art -- Chinese Xieyi 0159: Chrysanthemum
Artist: Shirley Zhang
Size: 67 x 67cm
Completed Time: Thur, Oct 25, 2007
Remarks:
This is my 159th Chinese Xieyi Painting that I painted in My Art Lesson Thursday night.

Later autumn is the time that chrysanthemums bloom. You can see them everywhere and to feel their beauty. In my city, for there is no any snow in the winter and there are flowers and green for whole of year, so, since early autumn to later winter, chrysanthemums have been blooming here or there. Also it is one of the most welcomed flowers in the most important Chinese Festival -- Spring Festival. You can see them by the gates almost all of the publics -- Hotels, Restaurants and Companies and Schools…

Chinese like chrysanthemums for it is the flowers that can open in the cold times, just like a gentleman who can live in a hard time. So, chrysanthemum has been considered as one of the 4 gentlemen in the flowers. That is why, it has been planted in China for several thousands years already.

For helping me to paint with a more free way, my teacher asked me to paint the flowers with a very big brush and colors directly. Even though the flowers and birds had to be painted with a big brushes.

I did it and my teacher thought that I have done a good job. So, I got 90 marks.

How do you think of it? Do you like my chrysanthemums?
