Shirley Created Picture & Calligraphy for the Poem April 19, 2008
As the other nations, Chinese people also admire the beautiful love. That is why, more than 3000 years ago, Chinese people had made the wonderful folk love poem Guan Ju ? Singing Osprey as the first one of our first poetry anthology Shi Jing.
It is for a long time, I had been thinking of creating a picture to match its meaning for I did enjoy the artistic conception in its first part of the poem since I had created a piece of music to match it and sang it in September, 2005.
I am smiling now for I painted it for a few nights, but, I had thought of its structure for a few weeks. Because I am not sure what an osprey looks like, so, I just painted the other birds there.
Right now, I just realize, it is not easy to be an artist indeed. It requests a person to know so many things, flower, bird, insect, fish, tree, sky, sun, moon, mountain, river and everything… I do feel cool for I have chosen to be an artist in my rest life since 2002. It is helping me to learn something new every day via touching and observe the great nature.
Except painting, this weekend, I have also re-written the music, re-played it, re-sang it and re-recorded it. Also, I sang it in English and in Chinese. I recorded the poem and my poem comments into two files.
I do hope that what I am working and exploring on painting, music and Chinese language will be a little bit help to you to know more about Chinese culture.
MAIN MEANING OF THE PEOM :
Guan! Guan! Singing ospreys, on the sandbar in the River, the beautiful girl, the gentleman’s ideal spouse.
